ASSOCIATION OF MEXICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS

OUR PHILOSOPHY 

​Purpose: to engage in projects which the membership considers to be in the best interests of the Mexican-American students attending Angelo State University and in the overall Mexican-American community of San Angelo, Texas; assist Mexican-American students to adjust to the academic and social aspects of college life; emphasize the study and appreciation of Mexican-American contributions to American society; encourage group unity among Mexican-American students; and encourage participation in AMAS from among all students attending ASU.

 

 

Our organization strongly promotes three fundamental principles in order to provide a support system for our members; Amor, Familia y Respeto. We show love through the sacrifices we make as officers. We sacrifice our time and money to ensure that our organization is maintained and that our members are content with what we have to offer them. We, as Mexican Americans, were instilled with strong family values and cultural ties so we strive to create a similar atmosphere for the members. Many of our members are first generation students who come from tightly-knit families and communities so it is of the utmost important that we make ourselves open and available to our members. We do our best to effectively and productively interact with our members and treat them with the utmost dignity and respect they deserve.
